With the Pac-12 Conference revealing that they are facing some serious financial issues, is it time for Arizona Athletics to leave the conference?

We are in some pretty crazy times and amid many companies and people feeling some serious financial hardships due to Covid, the Pac-12 Conference is no exception to that either. And given their current financial situation, is it time for Arizona Athletics to leave the conference?

Look, I know I sound like a broken record at this point, especially when it comes to chastising the Pac-12 and its commissioner, Larry Scott. And if you have been paying attention, you would have seen that we outlined the financial mishaps or Larry and the conference.

Well on Wednesday we got even more bad news, as Oregonian columnist John Canzano announced that the Pac-12 is letting go of 88 employees within the conference (none of which are in management).

Also according to John, the Pac-12 Network also “cut the entire digital team — those responsible for the website, app, and social platforms.”

Imagine that, after years of being financially irresponsible, it is affecting the conference in a pretty negative way.

Also, to make matters worse, it was revealed that the Pac-12 has the highest occupancy expenses by far. So much in fact, that the Pac-12 outspends the ACC, the Big 10, the Big 12 and the SEC combined by nearly $7 million.

Add to that that the Network has been an abject failure and that we also pay Larry Scott an exorbitant and bloated salary of $5.2 million per year, it seems like perhaps these layoffs could have either been prevented or at least managed better.

So given the conferences’ irresponsibility, I feel it is time for the University of Arizona too look elsewhere. I know I’m not alone in this, as I feel the school would be far better off if they went to another conference like the Big-12 for instance.

Seeing as how it seems like no matter how incompetent Larry is at his job, Arizona will continue to be impacted negatively as a result, particularly financially!

light. More. On Arizona Athletics

I know this of course is all a stretch, but we can dream, right? Anyways, at Zona Zealots, we’re just hoping for better leadership. As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
