Arizona Basketball needs to bring back throwback uniforms permanently!
It is long overdue, but now is the time that the Arizona Basketball program and Nike bring back the throwback uniforms permanently!
It has been a rather busy and eventful week for the Arizona Basketball, especially as we’ve been dealing with a whirlwind of emotions due to Lute Olson’s unfortunate and untimely passing.
While many have been coming to grips with losing the man who essentially built this program from the ground, it really got me reflecting on the many great memories and traditions we have today.
Arizona Wildcats
One of those traditions being our swagger and overall look on the court… or what used to be.
If you are like me, you have fond memories of the Wildcats tearing up the hardwood in the Nike uniforms of the mid-to-late 90s. Just like the ones you saw when the Wildcats won the National Championship in 1997.
Unfortunately we have not had those uniforms since the 2005-06 season, and in my opinion it has been a steady decline in uniform appearance since then. That is aside from a brief period of time.
While the Cats got close to replicating their uniforms from the 90s from 2010-11 until 2015-16, before and after the uniforms have been atrocious.
To the weird “duct tape” looking stripe uniforms of the last 2000s uniforms, to the current awkward gradient uniforms, I feel like Nike was done one of the most storied programs in college basketball a huge disservice.
A team that had such a clean and classic look in the 90s/ early 2000s, it seems like we’re getting these gimmicky uniforms.
Well, with the passing of Lute, it is time for Arizona and Nike to step up and bring back the uniforms of old! Give us that look that was synonymous with Lute’s teams and being a dominant team in the West.
I know fans like myself have been pleading for this!
While I know it’s not like Nike gives much consideration from fans, but perhaps they will give a littler consideration program as an Ode to Lute. As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
