No. 1 – LB Blake Martinez

Position: Linebacker
Class: 2012
High School: Canyon del Oro (Oro Valley, AZ)
College: Stanford

Not recruiting Blake Martinez is easily the biggest Arizona Football recruiting blunder in my opinion. Granted Blake went to Stanford, and perhaps maybe an offer from Arizona doesn’t matter here anyways, but not offering or not trying to recruit him was a huge mistake.

At this point, Blake might be the best football player ever to come from Tucson. He was a standout at CDO High School, and through his high school career, he was unfortunately overshadowed by Ka’Deem Carey.

Blake was a four-year standout with the Cardinal, totaling 255 tackles (139 solo), 13.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, five interceptions and five forced fumbles in roughly 30 games

Following his terrific collegiate career, Blake went on to become a fourth round selection, being picked 131 overall by the Green Bay Packers. Since then, he has become a standout NFL linebacker, even signing a monstrous three-year, $30,750,000 contract with the New York Giants this past off-season.

He is an incredibly accomplished football player, and to me that is why this is a big recruiting blunder by the Wildcats.
