Could Larry Scott finally be out as the Pac-12 Commissioner?
In a year that has been a rather awful one, perhaps things are looking up, especially if the rumors are true about Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott!
It has been years since the Pac-12 has seemingly had any good news, and that is unfortunate to say considering the Conference spends exorbitant amounts of money to pay Commissioner Larry Scott.
The guy that was hired to get us over the proverbial hump, and direct us into the new age of Conference Networks, Expansion, etc. has mostly come up short, and that’s putting it nicely.
Arizona Wildcats
While there have been some monumental moments, overall his hire has been an absolute disaster for the Conference. Every week, it is more negative news or publicity, and we have been rather vocal about our displeasure of the leadership.
To make things worse, we all found yesterday, that Larry and the Pac-12’s executive team paid themselves bonuses in the midst of a pandemic. It was also one month before they furloughed and laid off numerous employees.
But finally, we might have some good news! And in case you don’t know what we’re referring to, news of Scott’s employment status made the rounds via social media on Monday evening.
As of now, it seems like a rumor, however, I know know that many, including myself are hoping is true. So could Scott finally be out as Pac-12 Commissioner?
Wildcats Insider for 1290 AM radio took to Twitter stating, “I would expect Larry Scott’s days as Pac 12 Commissioner to be coming to an end soon. Should be out before the start of the year.”
While the news seemingly comes out of nowhere, however I assure you, if it is indeed true, fans are going to be happy about this.
I for one, have been adamant about the conference needing to move on for some time, and that goes beyond just his numerous faux pas he has made over the years.
Additionally, the conferences’ network deal is soon up, and it is time to get someone else in there that can put us in a position to not only improve our revenue share for our member schools, but also increase the amount of homes that can actually see Pac-12 games.
I know Arizona Athletics in particular could benefit from new leadership, one that is going to actually go to bat for its member schools, do their best to increase revenue share, get more exposure, etc.
Arizona Athletics is in a “major conference” that’s stuck with poor leadership that makes it feel like were a part of the WAC!
In a year that has given us such little good news, it is time for 2020 to start turning around. Hopefully he is indeed out this year, because that would be great for the Pac-12! As always, Bear Down!
