A struggling Arizona Football team could still go bowling

With the 2020 Arizona Football season all out of whack, it is quite feasible the Wildcats could go bowling, even if they struggle this year.

It’s like Oprah took over the NCAA and started handing out bowl games! “You get a bowl game, and you get a bowl game!” So what about Arizona Football? Well, I’ll get to that shortly.

As we (and I mean the collective we) are all… err well most of us, are excited about the Pac-12 announcing the return of football, in what has been a rather crazy and unusual year of college sports. Especially as we continue to deal with the lingering effects of Covid.

Months of inactivity is now seemingly a thing of the past as virtually every Power Five program will soon be returning to action.

Well, given the rather unprecedented year of college athletics, it was announced that the NCAA may be waiving their bowl eligibility requirements this season, which means that hey, maybe Arizona has a chance of bowling after all.

As pathetic and disheartening as that sounds, I certainly am not one for rewarding mediocrity, or in this case abysmal. However, it is an unprecedented year, and I think even potentially seeing a two-win Arizona team in a bowl game would be an invaluable experience for a program depleted of veteran experience.

Now don’t get me wrong, that isn’t some sort of defeatist, I’m desperate for an Arizona Bowl Game attitude, no, in fact, I look at it as an opportunity for younger players to get more experience and build towards next year.

While I am not completely throwing away this season, I also am a realist. I mean, let’s face it, given the numerous amounts of transfers on defense, and it doesn’t look too optimistic.

Arizona is breaking a lot of new players on defense, and the offense will still need to fix some kinks, so why not use more games to give more reps to the guys who will be here next year, to hopefully then build on.

Crazy idea? Maybe, however, I don’t think it’s unreasonable. I would value the experience more than anything else, and that is the point I’m trying to make here. Screw the “Save Face” because we’re too prideful as fans to play in a bowl game, even with a losing record possibly.
