Arizona Basketball to play a more regional schedule?
With the Arizona Basketball team soon returning to action, we will see how their season turns out, especially with a regional schedule perhaps in the works.
Were you hoping for big, marquee, non-conference match-ups from Arizona Basketball in 2020-21? Well, you might have to wait a year, especially if the Wildcats will indeed play a more regional schedule this season.
Not sure what we’re talking about? Well, making news via Social Media over the weekend was CBS Sports Hoops analyst Matt Norlander announcing that Arizona will most likely see their non-conference schedule be against opponents from mid-major leagues out West this year.
Arizona Wildcats
This news of course came right on the heels of the Arizona-Illinois game announcement. As you may recall, the Wildcats were set to take on the Illini this year, however, that game that will now be postponed until next season.
While that news is unfortunate, it is a year that has been a rather unorthodox one. This news is just on top of the Wildcats kicking-off their season a bit later than usual. To make things more unusual, there will be no fans in attendance this season either.
However, the scheduling news that Norlander announced makes sense for a lot of reasons. Given the fact that we are still seeing Covid running a bit rampant in this country, limiting lengthy travel times, and keep scheduling a bit more geographically focused could feasibly help limit the spread.
It would allow for the Wildcats to still play a competitive schedule, but also prevent them going East Coast, or make long trips.
The only unfortunate thing is that it means there is a lot of planning ahead of us in the coming weeks.
As it stands, it is hard to say just who the Wildcats will face, but it will be interesting to see how this all plays out. As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
