In his conference call on Wednesday afternoon, Kevin Sumlin discusses quarantining, Arizona Football and the upcoming 2020 season.

It has been a rather unusual year for Arizona Football so far in 2020, and that statement can certainly be punctuated as head coach Kevin Sumlin remains quarantined, recovering from Covid.

The news of his diagnosis came just days ago, and despite the minor setback, the show goes on for him and the Wildcats!

In a conference call on Wednesday afternoon, Sumlin addressed the media, talking everything from Arizona Football, his Covid recovery and the upcoming season.

Luckily for him “He’s doing alright,” he said. “It’s a process and it’s unfortunate, but we’ll see where we are at the end of the week.”

Well, as we also learned on that call, even with Sumlin being asymptomatic and beginning his season preparations from behind a computer screen at home, perhaps his biggest challenge this year will be getting his team to exceed such lowly expectations.

Already, we are all aware of the challenge that lies ahead, and perhaps none more aware than Sumlin. And with the Wildcats picked to finish last, Sumlin is not letting that distract him. “None of those people are coaching or playing in games” he said.

However, that doesn’t change the fact that the team has seen lot of attrition and transfers this off-season. And to top it off, there has been limited preparation time this off-season as well.

His coaching staff was at least fortunate to see some things before Covid shut down Spring Football and virtually everything else for a few months.

But with Fall Camp starting in the next few days, the real work begins, with Sumlin in attendance or not. “We got of things to do as a team,” he said. “But I think we’ve got plenty of time to get it done.”
