Former Arizona Football assistant coach John Rushing passes away at 48
In case we needed any more bad news this off-season, Arizona Football has lost a member of the family as former coach John Rushing passed away at 48.
Yesterday was a somber day for the Arizona Football program, and as you may have already seen, it is that former position John Rushing passed away yesterday.
Making news via Social Media, we all learned that coach Rushing had passed at the young age of 48, however, the cause of death is not fully known at this time.
Arizona Wildcats
For those who didn’t know, John was a standout player in college, becoming a four-year started for then head coach Mike Price at Washington State.
Following his career in Pullman, John would try and make it professional bouncing around on practice squads in the NFL and CFL, before becoming a coach in the mid-90s.
He began his coaching career at the High School level but quickly rose the ranks, transitioning to coaching in college in the late 90s/ early 2000s, before eventually coaching in the NFL. John would coach from 2009-16 for the Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Rams (2016).
Finally making the transition back to college the following season, he became a safeties coach for Oregon State in 2017, and coached Arizona from 2018-19, before being fired this past year along with former defensive coordinator, Marcel Yates.
Just because things did not work out for John in Tucson, that does not mean he did not have an impact on the program or community. In my eyes, anytime you become a part of the Wildcats, you are forever a Wildcat.
He put a lot of effort into this program and did his best to teach young men not only how to play football, but also how to be men. You can clearly see the impact he had after several Wildcats took to social media yesterday to share their condolences.
At Zona Zealots, we would like to send our condolences as well. John was a beloved coach and member of the program and we wish his family the best! Bear Down always, Coach!
