With the Arizona Football team still looking to play in their first game in 2020, perhaps the Wildcats’ biggest opponent this season will be Covid.

It is November 10, there is a cool crisp in the air, the Holiday season is just around the corner, and Arizona Football has yet to play a football game this season. Welcome to the absurdity that has been 2020!

However, things will look a bit more normal when the Wildcats open their season on Saturday against the USC Trojans. That is of course if nothing hinders that.

Coming into the year, we were already well aware of the upcoming challenges that the Wildcats would likely face this season.

The defense has an entirely new staff, the roster has had a lot of departures and attrition among players, and the season is a short one with some tough match-ups ahead that leaves little room for error.

Nonetheless, the season restart was approved by the Conference months ago, and things were in motion for the Cats to get things restarted.

Even with the challenges mentioned previously, that may not be the toughest obstacle(s) that the Wildcats will have to overcome this season.

Now please excuse the glaringly obvious here, but the biggest opponent this season will in fact be navigating through a 2020 season, with Covid still being a prevalent threat.

Already we have seen two games canceled in the Pac-12 this season, with it being just one week into the season. Unfortunately for us, one of those games was the Wildcats’ game against Utah this past weekend.

I don’t know about you, but it seems pretty

feasible

, likely that we could run into a similar scenario here again soon.

It is the one element you can’t seemingly control too much as a program, and despite Arizona’s rather conservative and calculated approach to addressing the pandemic, they just can’t control what happens, especially among other programs (hello Utah and Cal).

Now I may be a bit biased here, but it seems like Arizona may be one of the better equipped and more responsive programs in the Pac-12 that is adhering to the guidelines and procedures.

Just because Arizona is doing a good job thus far, that does not mean everyone else will continue to do so as well. That is why I think Covid is Arizona’s biggest opponent in 2020.

I do see more players contracting the virus, and I also see at least another cancellation in the conference happening as well.

Either way, it’ll be interesting to see how these next two months play out, Arizona Football or not. As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
