What limited fans at games means for Arizona Football
With the Arizona Football program about to start their 2020 season, Athletic Director Dave Heeke announced that the Wildcats will have limited fans at games this year. Here’s what that likely means for Arizona.
It is an unusual year for sports, and in particular College Athletics. And for Arizona Football, that is certainly be said as well, as it is currently November 14, and the Wildcats are about to play in their football game this season.
However, as it stands, with the Wildcats being on track to take the field for the first time in 2020, they will take on the Mighty Trojans of USC this weekend, and as we are all aware, Arizona will have quite the challenge ahead of them.
Arizona Wildcats
Prior to this point, remember that a lot of debate went into whether the Wildcats would even be able to play this season in first place, let alone even have fans at games at all. Well, as we have seen in recent weeks, we have certainly come a long ways to get where we are at today, but finally football is back!
Coming into the new season “restart”, we are fully aware that it is going to be a rather unprecedented one as the Wildcats will have limited games, and there will likely be no fans in attendance.
However, making news via social media on Thursday, it is that Arizona Athletic Director Dave Heeke announced that Arizona is exploring their options that could allow for some fans to be able to attend football games this season after all.
Limiting the games to just family for Arizona players and opposing players, at least there are going to be some fans in the stands this season.
While the news is exciting and hopeful, here’s what it means for the program. Now granted it is still going to be an unorthodox year, but to me having any sense of normalcy I’m sure would be welcomed right now.
Look, these kids aren’t used to playing in completely empty stadiums. And before the pessimists and naysayers say, “but look at Arizona Football, they always have empty stadiums…” hardy har har.
I’m talking about a stadium with no people in it other than program staffs, refs, etc. Our guys are not used to that. So to me, having some fans is a BIG win for the program.
I know I am biased here, but the Wildcats I feel are doing the best in the conference at keep their players safe and healthy. This just shows how well we have been doing to keep this controlled, and having any fans in the stands in my opinion could help give a small competitive advantage.
I know it is not much, but any little extra motivation and edge would be welcomed this year.
At Zona Zealots, we are hoping the Wildcats can have a safe and unscathed season, and as always, Bear Down, Arizona!
