With roughly two weeks until early signing day, Arizona Football has taken a major hit as three-star defensive end, Ja’Quez Harvey has decommitted.

Thursday was not a good day for Arizona Football. Amid an 0-3 season, and a lot of outside noise regarding Kevin Sumlin’s job security, the Wildcats have lost a commitment in the class of 2021, Southern California-based defensive end, Ja’Quez Harvey.

One of the higher rated recruits in Arizona’s recruiting class for 2021, Harvey took to social media on Thursday afternoon to announce that he was de-committing from the Wildcats, and is officially opening his recruitment.

Despite having been committed for nearly five months, Harvey is going to explore some of his other options, which is rather unfortunate for the Wildcats, because this is indeed a sizable loss.

Rated a three-star Strongside Defensive End in the class for 2021, Harvey is the No. 1,139 overall player in the class and the No. 92 overall player in the talent-rich state of California according to 247Sports.

Given Arizona’s struggles to find key defensive players and contributors for a struggling defense, losing a player like Harvey hurts since he was going to potentially have a big impact with the Cats. Even worse is that Early Signing Day is just a couple of weeks away, and Arizona couldn’t hang on here.

Theorize all you want on why Harvey is decommitting, however, you cannot deny the poor optics of the direction of the program at the moment.

At 0-3 on the year and facing a potential, 11-game losing with Colorado coming into town this week, you have to begin to question the current health of this program.

Why does Arizona continue to struggle in the world of recruiting, particularly on defense, despite having all the playing time in the world to offer?

Things are broken at Arizona, and you just hope that the program doesn’t suffer any more de-commitments from here on out, especially with Early Signing Day just around the corner.

At Zona Zealots, we wish Ja’Quez well and hope he finds success wherever he goes. As for the Wildcats, hopefully they can turn things around. As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
