Arizona Football vs ASU, for more than just the Territorial Cup
Arizona Football faces Arizona State in the annual Territorial Cup, and with the season not going the way both teams had hoped for, the game is still just as meaningful.
The Arizona Football team is ending their season just as they always do, in a final showdown with in-state rival, the Arizona State Sun Devils. But as we all have seen, this has truly been a season unlike any other for both football clubs.
Both Arizona and ASU have been massively impacted by COVID-19. The Sun Devils have had a few games canceled and the Wildcats have had many players opt-out of the season because of the virus. Did I mention that both teams are winless this season?
Arizona Wildcats
Let’s talk about what an Arizona Football win would mean –
We don’t need to waste any more time talking about ASU. The Wildcats seem to have a lot riding on this game.
The team is currently in the middle of an 11-game losing streak, and a lot of jobs are seemingly riding on this.
Beyond that, you really got to consider the health of this program. A win in arguably the most meaningful game of 2020 could be what the Wildcats need in order to turn this thing around.
Arizona Football has a losing streak to ASU –
Every Wildcat fan has heard all about how the team has lost 11-straight games. But that losing streak includes a three-game losing streak to the Sun Devils. Both schools and fanbases obviously take a lot of pride in winning this game, and for Wildcat fans, seeing their team lose this game three years in a row, is just unacceptable.
When it comes to this game, it always seems to me that no matter the records are for either team heading into this game, both teams always have a fighting chance, with the home team having a distinct advantage.
Since Kevin Sumlin was hired by the Wildcats, it seems like the only ones with an advantage in this game, are the ones wearing maroon and gold. That can’t happen anymore!
Kevin Sumlin –
Since I brought up Sumlin, let’s talk about him. When he was hired in 2018, a lot of Wildcat fans, myself included were ecstatic at the idea. We thought that he would be the guy to lead us to a lot of big bowl games and increase the Wildcats’ recruiting prowess.
Now in year three, the results have certainly been far from that. Under Sumlin, we have yet to have had a winning season, a bowl game, or even beaten ASU, so his job could be riding on this game.
At Zona Zealots, we’re hopeful the Cats can come away with the win here and as always, Bear Down and beat the Devils!
