Arizona Football seeing de-commitments with coaching change
With the recent coaching with Arizona Football, naturally some recruits have been starting to decommit from the class of 2021.
It has been a whirlwind of events the past 24 hours for Arizona Football. With the Wildcats moving on from the Kevin Sumlin era in Tucson, naturally you are beginning to see some changes to the 2021 recruiting class.
For fans of the Wildcats that also follow the recruiting process semi-religiously like myself, we are seeing quite a few changes to the class thus far, especially with early signing day being just a few days away.
Arizona Wildcats
Well, making news on Sunday afternoon have been the de-commitments of Louisiana-based recruits, Tyrese Johnson (WR), and Montrell Johnson (RB) so far.
Together, the two standout recruits in the Class for the Wildcats took to Social Media to announce their decisions, as both players have decided to re-open their recruitments, and to put it bluntly, the losses are significant.
Just as to be expected with any coaching change, there is always going to be a bit of a “painful” transition. Players will decommit because of their relationships they have with the previous staff, and to me, this is no surprise here, as the Wildcats were likely going to see movement.
Nonetheless, as tough as it is for the Wildcats to go through this, we can all at least agree the program was in desperate need of change. So to me, it is better to rip off the ban aid now, rather than waiting any longer, and things getting worse for this program.
If losing a few recruits along the way is the short-term loss that we have to endure in order to re-energize a passionless and stagnant football program, then so be it.
Who knows, perhaps with the right coaching hire, Arizona could still have a chance at luring one or perhaps even both players back in.
At Zona Zealots, we’re curious to see how this process plays out in the coming weeks, and will be following everything closely. As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
