After nearly two weeks of anticipation, the Arizona Football program has hired former New England Patriots QB Coach Jedd Fisch to be their next head coach. Now what?
The hire of Jedd Fisch yesterday was a puzzling one for many Arizona Football fans, to put it nicely. Most fans and those with an association to the U of A wanted someone who either had experience as a head coach or someone with ties to the University and the city of Tucson. Coach Fisch has neither.
Not only are there zero connections between Fisch and the U of A, but every coaching stop for him has been short. Even his most recent stop was as the Quarterback coach in New England, and he was only there for a year. And if you’ve watched Cam Newton this year, you know Fisch was not all that successful this season.

Newton looked terrible and for the first time in over a decade, the Pats missed the playoffs, the latter of which is not on Fisch.
What I find frustrating is that according to an ESPN report Fisch and San Jose State Coach Brent Brennan were the two finalists and Fisch won out over the more proven Brennan. When in actuality, it was Brennan that is the more proven coach, especially on paper.
Alas, Fisch was hired, and the rest is history. So with Fisch hired, there are a few things to note…as
It is important for Arizona Football fans to show support for Coach Fisch –
While most fans, including those of us at Zona Zealots are feeling irritated over the hiring of Fisch, it is important to show support for the man who is going to lead our beloved football team. He has enough on his plate both professionally and personally.
Not only will he be taking over one of the most disastrous college football programs in the country, but he is also uprooting his family in the process. I can only imagine the uphill battle he’ll face as he to recruit players and pull this program out of this mess.
If you want someone to be mad at it should at U of A President Dr. Robert Robbins, who seemingly sold out this program in order to hire his close friend.
If you’re a Wildcat fan, odds are you’re also irritated with Athletic Director David Heeke, who since the end of the Rich Rod era has struggled to keep this program going in a forward direction. But now it is time to support Fisch, even if we didn’t like the hiring process.
Those of us at Zona Zealots wish Coach Fisch the best of luck with our football team, Bear Down Coach, and as always Bear Down, Arizona!
