For Jedd Fisch and Arizona Football actions speak loudest
Just days after hiring Jedd Fisch, the new Arizona Football head coach is saying all the right things, but his actions will be far more important moving forward.
It has been a busy few days for the Arizona Football program. Just days after University of Arizona President Dr. Robert Robbins commandeered the coaching search, ultimately to hire his friend Jedd Fisch, it has led to innumerous criticisms from fans as a result.
Albeit some of those criticisms being just, in the past few days, fans have essentially gone through a grieving process if you will, and are finally coming to grips that Fisch is indeed the head coach.

However, coming into the hiring process, Athletic Director Dave Heeke preached about wanting a coach who not only has ties to Arizona but more importantly, would embrace the traditions and history of Arizona Football, bridging the relationship of the coaching staff and the alumni that has been neglected for years.
While Fisch doesn’t quite check all the boxes, he is, however, a coach who is well-connected and well-respected in both College and the NFL. Even more gratifying is that Fisch is already five days on the job and he is doing all the right things.
From reaching out to alumni to involving former football legends and players, and promising to open Spring Practices to the public, the guy “gets it” and is the complete antithesis to previous head coaches Rich Rodriguez and Kevin Sumlin.
If results were based solely on the words and Public Relations moves of a newly hired head coach, Arizona Football would be undefeated. However, that’s not how College Football works, and actions will ultimately speak louder than words, especially for head coach Jedd Fisch, who will need to continue to sell himself to an indifferent and pissed off fan base.
There is no denying that Arizona Football is in desperate need of resuscitation, and this program cannot afford (figuratively and literally) another repeat of the Sumlin years. The Wildcats need someone who understands the program and the culture, who will also embrace the challenge that is Arizona Football.
So far, Fisch is saying and doing all the right things, but let’s see if those words are reinforced by action. If he can do that, he may just surprise us all… As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
