We’re getting closer and closer to the Arizona Football staff being finalized, as the Wildcats have hired yet another new, assistant coach, this time it is Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach, Brennan Carroll.

Brennan Carroll

Age: 41
Position: Offensive line coach/Run game coordinator with Seattle Seahawks
Alma Mater: Delaware/Pittsburgh

Resume:

  • USC Trojans – Graduate Assistant (2002–03)
  • USC Trojans – Tight Ends (2004–06)
  • USC Trojans – Tight Ends/Recruiting Coordinator (2007–09)
  • Miami Hurricanes – Tight Ends/Recruiting Coordinator (2011–12)
  • Miami Hurricanes – Wide Receivers/Recruiting Coordinator (2013–14)
  • Seattle Seahawks – Offensive Line Coach/Run Game Coordinator (2015–20)

Brennan’s experience is vast, having spent nearly 20 years in the NFL and in College.

But what should we expect from Coach Carroll? Well, we first begin by understanding the role of the OC/OL Coach. The responsibilities include preparing and strategizing a game plan for the offensive side of the ball, that will best serve against any given opponent.

The game plan is specialized based on each opponent’s strengths and weaknesses. The OC calls the plays during a game (unless the Head Coach assumes those duties) and they have to be able to read the defense and adjust plays accordingly based on the defensive reads.

He works closely with the quarterback, specifically communicating regularly during a game with him, and the OC and QB must always be on the same page. The OC can be on the field during a game or in the press box.

So what about the Offensive Line? Well, as a Coach, their responsibilities include teaching technique, providing expert knowledge of the running game, and ensuring the Offensive Linemen understand their assignments and blocking schemes for each play.

Carroll will arrive in Tucson after he completes his tour of duty with the Seattle Seahawks where he has been gainfully employed serving under the direct leadership of his father, Seahawks Head Coach, Pete Carroll.

Brennan has been with the Seahawks organization since 2015 working as an Offensive Line Coach / Run Game Coordinator. Prior to the NFL, he served in a variety of roles, all on the offensive side of the ball to include assistant coach/position coach for wide receivers, special teams, tight ends, and recruiting coordinator at USC and Miami.

As an Assistant Coach, Carroll won five Pac-10 Conference Titles, all with USC, while working for his father the first time. Carroll played Tight End for Delaware in 1997 and then transferred to Pittsburgh, playing with the Panthers from 1999-01.

Head Coach Jedd Fisch and Carroll worked together at Miami 20011-12, which is why these two are so closely connected.
