Why I’m Excited to go Fisch(ing) with Arizona Football
As time moves on, so do opinions, and nearly two weeks into the hiring of Jedd Fisch, my thoughts have changed on the Arizona Football head coach.
It has been nearly two weeks since Arizona Football hired Jedd Fisch to replace a tumultuous unsuccessful three seasons with Kevin Sumlin.
Personally, I hated the decision. It felt like we took yet another step backward. Did we seriously hire a Head Coach that has yet to spend 3 years in a single coaching stop, and never been a head coach?

With the wealth of experience and ties that other rumored candidates had, there was a strong possibility that Arizona was going to hire a coach with Tomey ties, or at least someone with major, Power 5 experience.
How was Fisch even considered a serious candidate is still a mystery, but we all know the truth? With some favor from University President Robert Robbins, and their close, personal relationship, it seemed like this was a deal in the making.
Growing up with a dad that went to Penn State, and not too long ago watched a different New England Patriots coach use a college as a stepping stone back to the NFL, it was apparent that Bill O’Brien had no real interest in the program or area.
Granted he came in and guided Penn State through some of the darkest of days following their scandal, but even then, you could see in his initial press conference that it seemed like Penn State was a stepping stone for him and not a destination job.
So after watching what transpired at Penn State, and now as a University of Arizona student, I wasn’t all that thrilled to see yet again that a program I follow went back to the Bill Belichick coaching tree yet again.
Despite a rather untrustworthy hiring process and my own personal bias, I have had some time to come to grips with the decision, and slowly my opinions are changing, and the things Fisch is saying and doing are speaking volumes.
First, he hired Ricky Hunley, then Chuck Cecil, and now Brennan Carroll. Suddenly there were the makings of a staff that looks interested in staying in Tucson rather than using the Wildcats as a stepping stone.
With Carroll and Fisch leading the offense, it is hard not to be excited about the possibilities of a pro-style offense encompassing a basis from the Seattle Seahawks and Patriots. Add in two doses of mean with Cecil and Hunley on the defensive end, and the excitement is building back up with the potential of what could be coming in the next few years.
So after some adjustment and a little Kool-aid drinking, I am ready to go Fisching with Coach Jedd in 2021 and beyond and look forward to watching him get to work. Hopefully, we can soon start dreaming of seeing the Wildcats in postseason action again, or better yet, finally making it to Pasadena without having to play the Bruins. As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
