Less than two weeks into the Jedd Fisch era for Arizona Football, and already the new head coach has picked a commitment from transfer Gunner Maldonado.
For anyone looking for some positives regarding Arizona Football, look no further than the most recent commitment of Northwestern transfer, Gunner Maldonado.
Originally a standout football player from the talented Chandler High School here in Arizona, Gunner had initially committed to the other Wildcats out of high school, despite holding offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Indiana, and Iowa State among others.

Well after just one season in Evanston, IL, the soon-to-be sophomore safety announced his intent to transfer just a few weeks ago, and on Monday afternoon, he announced he is coming home!
Taking to social media to make his announcement official, this is a big-time commitment for the Wildcats.
Coming into the off-season, there was no doubt the Wildcats needed a lot of help virtually everywhere, but in particular the defense. Well, given the recent transfer eligibility rule changes (thanks Covid), Gunner should be immediately eligible to play, and given Arizona’s defensive needs in the secondary, he should come in and compete right away!
As we stated previously, Gunner hails from the talented Chandler High School, which is roughly 100 miles Northwest of campus. This is a pipeline that could have pay big dividends recruiting wise, should the relationship prove beneficial here.
Chandler consistently has some of the top kids in the state, and forming that relationship early on could be vital in turning the tide for Arizona’s recruiting success in the state.
Gunner is a sturdy and tough kid that didn’t get too many opportunities at Northwestern, but at Arizona, it will be exciting to see him coached by Chuck Cecil and be developed. Remember, this was the kid that was once named the best Safety in the State of Arizona.
He is a rangy athlete with a solid frame, and he plays downhill well, packing solid power to his hits.
At Zona Zealots, we are excited about this addition and can’t wait to see how he fits in Tucson! As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
