Another day, another coaching hire for the Arizona Football team, as head coach Jedd Fisch is bringing in Don Brown to be the defensive coordinator.

We are finally nearing completion of the Arizona Football staff for 2021. After waiting patiently for the hiring of a defensive coordinator, it seems as if head coach Jedd Fisch has his man, meet Don Brown.

The 65-year old former defensive coordinator at Michigan, Coach Fisch essentially hinted at hiring Coach Brown on Tuesday evening, thanks to a cryptic tweet.

The meaning behind it? Well, with the Power Ball drawing such major attention, the top row in his lottery ticket is the most recent coaching years for Coach Brown, and the numbers on the second row are his subsequent defensive rankings for those particular years.

The hiring of Brown is a big one and is as if Arizona Football did indeed win the lottery. Hiring Brown all but completes the Wildcats’ needs on the defensive side of the ball, and the only move left in question is whether Fisch will hire a true linebacker coach, or if Coach Brown will assume those responsibilities as well.

Make no mistake about it, this is a great move for Arizona, as Coach Brown is completely antithetical to previous defensive coordinator hires of Jeff Casteel and Marcel Yates. Browns’ philosophy? Blitz, blitz, and blitz some more.

His aggressive playstyle will be a breath of fresh air to fans that have been longing for the days to never again see us using soft zones and coverages or only blitzing three players.

The only concerns with the hiring seem to be, can Coach Brown be just as successful in Tucson without having the talent he had in Michigan, will he recruit, and at 65-years old, how much does he have left in his tank?

To me, those are all legitimate concerns, however, for now, the hiring is an important one for Arizona, and with the staff virtually complete, Fisch can now focus on wrapping up the 2021 recruiting class, and hitting the transfer portal.
