In a bit of an unusual off-season for former Wildcat Allonzo Trier, the ex-Arizona star will get another chance at reaching the NBA, as he was drafted into the G-League.

It has been a weird few months for former Arizona Basketball star Allonzo Trier. After spending two, fairly productive seasons in the NBA in New York, the always dysfunctional Knicks shockingly decided to waive the electric shooting guard a few months ago, perhaps to the dismay of fans.

In his limited action in New York, Zo certainly showed glimpses of stardom, even scoring a career-high 31 points back in January 2019. And despite appearing in 88 games and averaging 9.7 points and 2.6 rebounds, surprisingly, no team signed Trier over the Summer.

Weighing his options, Trier ultimately decided to make another run at the NBA, entering the G-League Draft, perhaps his best chance at getting back into the league.

Well, on Monday afternoon, the G-League Draft came and went, and going No. 4 overall was Trier to the Iowa Wolves, the G-League affiliate to the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves.

Coming in, he will have a great opportunity to showcase his skills, and I’m sure Zo will be plenty motivated too. To me, I still feel that the Knicks give up too quickly, and for Allonzo, the road back to the NBA leads through Iowa.

Debate all you want whether you feel Trier is worthy of being in the NBA, but the fact of the matter is Allonzo is a supreme talent and a naturally gifted scorer. Two key elements of being successful in the NBA.

Who knows, perhaps with the right system and development, Trier could take that next step as a player.

It is worth noting that former Wildcat Brandon Williams was also in the G-League Draft, however, the ex-Crespi High School standout was unfortunately not drafted.
