Arizona Football head coach Jedd Fisch is getting closer and closer to finalizing his staff, with Head Strength and Conditioning coach Tyler Owens being one of the most important hires yet.
In just three short weeks, Arizona Football head coach Jedd Fisch has done a tremendous job hiring and putting together a talented staff here in Tucson. His most recent hire being Alabama’s Tyler Owens to become the Head Strength and Conditioning coach.
The news of Owens hiring was announced via social media, and coincidentally, it came just one day after Tyler was a part of the talented Crimson Tide team that won their 18th National Championship in school history.

Coming into this off-season, Fisch was going to be making a lot of important hires, perhaps none more important than hiring a Strength and Conditioning Coach to replace the recent departure of Brian Johnson.
For those that don’t know, Brian was a well-liked, and well-respected coach for the Wildcats, and losing him would be significant.
Luckily for us, just 21 days later, Coach Fisch has his man, and he went to the most storied college football program in the Country to go and get him.
Meet Tyler, the Alabama native and former Crimson Tide walk-on turned Assistant Strength and Conditioning.
Tyler is a fiery and competitive young coach that is quickly climbing the coaching ranks, and luckily Fisch and Arizona were able to lure him away from Tuscaloosa.
Coming in, he is going to have the challenge of getting this group prepared and ready to play football and play it to the level of what Fisch is going to be expecting. The job of the Strength and Conditioning coach is an important one, and it is one that often gets overlooked in college football.
Typically the unsung heroes in college football, Strength and Conditioning coaches are in charge of developing and implementing programs and a regimen that prepare student-athletes for a long, grueling football season. And right now, this program needs all the help they can get.
Since Arizona has seemingly struggled to compete physically with some of the bigger and more physical teams in the Pac-12, why not go and poach someone from SEC Country to prepare this group?
From day one, Coach Owens’ job will be to help transform this program and get things turned around.
To me, Arizona’s success will start in the weight room, and building those good habits now will be vital. So getting a young, hungry coach like Owens seems like a no-brainer that could ultimately pay big dividends in the long run.
At Zona Zealots, we’re excited about the hiring of Coach Owens and can’t wait to see what he can do in Tucson. As always, Bear Down, Arizona!
