Over a month into the job and Arizona Football head coach Jedd Fisch has picked up his first commitment for 2022 with in-state lineman Grayson Stovall.

Shortly after being introduced as the Arizona Football head coach, Jedd Fisch said that recruiting the state of Arizona was going to be a priority of his moving forward. So far, he has been true to his word, and so far, it seems to be paying off big-time as the Wildcats have added in-state lineman Grayson Stovall for 2022.

A standout at Chandler Hamilton High School from just up the road in Chandler, AZ, Grayson recently took a recruiting trip to Tucson, and it seems to have made a difference here as he decided to shut his recruitment down.

Announcing his commitment via social media on Friday evening, the three-star offensive guard committed to Arizona over offers from Arizona State, Utah, Michigan State, and Indiana among others.

Becoming the first commitment for the Wildcats in the class of 2022, this is a huge addition for Arizona, and no, I am not referring to his massive, 6-foot-4-inch, and 281-pound stature.

As I said earlier, Arizona is looking to do a better job recruiting their state, and this may go without saying, but for about the previous ten years, Arizona has done a poor job in keeping the top talent. That is why going to a talent-rich school like Hamilton (a school Arizona has had little success with) and poaching a kid like Stovall is a big deal for this program.

Not only does he address a position of need which is important but perhaps more importantly is that the early effort by Fisch and staff seems to be paying off now too! Let’s hope that this materializes into more in-state recruiting successes down the road.

As for Grayson, he is a big and talented kid that moves quite well for a player of his size. He has a quick and explosive first step, he possesses good power, and plays with a nastiness that is refreshing to see.

Excelling mostly in run blocking, he looks for contact and uses quick and active feet to drive his opponent into the turf.

Just from his film, there’s a lot to like here…
