SALT LAKE CITY, UT – It was a sloppy performance and effort for Arizona Basketball (13-5, 7-5) as the Wildcats lost to Utah 73-58 on the road.

It is not often that Arizona Basketball gets their butt kicked, let alone in front of a crowd of virtually zero people, nonetheless, in a wild, 2020-21 season the Wildcats were routed in Salt Lake City.

Freshman Kerr Kriisa made his debut, and Azoulas Tubelis finished the evening with an impressive 17 points and seven rebounds performance, however, it was an evening I’m sure the Wildcats would like to forget and quickly.

The team shot just 20-54 from the field (2-9 from three) and had 12 turnovers (eight in the first half), which was easily one of the worst performances by the Wildcats this season.

Arizona did hold the early lead at 26-23 with 3:37 to go in the first half, but unfortunately, that was the last time that the Wildcats would lead in this one, as just a minute later, the Utes would pull ahead. Utah would never trail in the game from that point on.

Despite the decent start by the Wildcats, overall, it just wasn’t an evening to remember for Arizona. Utah shot an astounding 57 percent from the field (83 percent from three) in the second half, running away with this one, as they even led by as many as 18 at one point.

So where does Arizona Basketball go at this point?

Well, with Colorado looming, the Wildcats will have another tough match-up come Saturday evening, and I would expect the Buffaloes to be hungry and ready, especially as they are coming off a loss to Utah in which they blew a 19-point lead.

If Arizona is going to win, they are going to need a better effort from what we saw on Thursday evening.

Against Utah, the Utes “kicked our asses” as Tubelis put it, and hopefully, this is a needed wake-up call to the team in order to bring it every night.
