Arizona Football adds linebacker transfer, Jerry Roberts
Continuing to stockpile talent for 2021 and beyond, Jedd Fisch and Arizona Football have added Bowling Green linebacker transfer, Jerry Roberts.
It has been a busy off-season for the Arizona Football team, and on Monday afternoon, the Wildcats have added another key piece to the 2021 roster with the transfer of Bowling Green State linebacker, Jerry Roberts.
Making his announcement via Social Media, this is a big addition for Arizona, and that is by no means in reference to his size. For those curious, Jerry stands a massive 6-feet-4-inches and 235-pounds.
Arizona Wildcats
A native of Erie, PA, Jerry is a redshirt junior linebacker that will come to Arizona with two years to play, and a great opportunity to make an impact early on. Given his size, experience, and athleticism, he will be sure to help bolster a linebacking group that left much to desired last season.
So what exactly is Arizona Football getting with Bowling Green State linebacker transfer Jerry Roberts?
For starters, Jerry is a standout linebacker that likely projects as an outside linebacker/edge rusher for the Wildcats.
With the Falcons, he appeared in 20 games from 2018-20, making 93 tackles (44 solo), with 7.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and a forced fumble. The production appears to be there, and with the Wildcats having just a handful of veterans, adding a player like Jerry can’t hurt this group.
Plus, given newly hired defensive coordinator Don Brown’s aggressive playstyle, adding players like Jerry is a no-brainer.
Overall, he has tremendous size, and he is Arizona’s largest linebacker that I can remember since perhaps Marquis Flowers who initially was recruited as a safety.
Pros: He is quick, shows great instincts, looks fluid and natural in his pursuit of the football, and attacks with tenacity. Jerry sees the ball well, reacts, and does a great job at making himself ‘bigger’ to plug up running lanes and create disruption.
Cons: Sometimes, he can get a little too high in his tackles.
Overall, he just seems to have a great feel for the game and shows good patience, letting the play come to him. Just see for yourself!
