Arizona Athletics can’t drag its feet on Arizona Basketball
Already a week into the Arizona Basketball off-season and the Arizona Athletic department cannot sit idly by, it is time to make a decision.
Since losing to Oregon in Eugene last Monday evening, it has been a whirlwind of events for the Arizona Basketball team.
Already, the program is unprecedented territory as they are not playing in March, they are still awaiting their fate from the Independent Accountability Resolution Process, and head coach Sean Miller enters the final year of his contract.
Arizona Wildcats
To make things even more drama filled, the Wildcats released their Notice of Allegations on Friday evening, causing a lot of reactionary responses (good and bad) from fans, talking heads, pundits, etc.
So far, the common theme among fans is for the school to extend Miller, however, plenty have made the case for the Wildcats move on. Either way, the decision lies in Dr. Robert Robbins’ hands.
To me, the decision is easy, you either extend him with ramifications in place that would deem him terminable if more or new damning information were to come out, or you move on now.
At this point, things have been unnecessarily quiet, and the waiting game seems silly to be honest. Following the release of the Allegations, that was about as big of a “win” the Wildcats will get from all of this, and waiting does nothing either. The IARP process could take another year, and what has transgressed over the last three years is enough to either say “yes, we’re still backing Millers’ innocence” or “we’ve seen enough, it’s time to move on.”
Unfortunately, since Arizona seemingly wants to have a continued lack of leadership in this entire process, it is being alluded by Arizona Daily Star reporter Bruce Pascoe, that the school, and more specifically Dr. Robbins, may just let Miller enter his final contract year with no extension in place. That is of course in spite of him saying ‘Sean Miller is our coach’.
What an absolute disaster!
For the stability of this program, you either get behind Miller (with the support from top boosters), or you don’t and hope you have someone you can line up quickly that will still draw plenty of interest.
