With Arizona Athletics being strapped for cash these days, the Arizona Football program should try to add a sponsor for the football stadium.

It has been a rough year for Arizona Athletics. Since the COVID pandemic hit, it has put a real damper on the Wildcats’ finances, and in particular the Arizona Football program.

As we all saw this past year, things got especially challenging when the team could not host any fans at Arizona Stadium and even had to pay Kevin Sumlin a handsome $7 million to end his contract.

In short, due to some uncontrollable circumstances, the athletic department is facing some tough, financial challenges ahead. Perhaps it would be wise for the department to get creative and find ways to bring in more money, like teaming up with a sponsor for the stadium naming rights.

Fellow Pac-12 member school Washington State is already doing this, as it was just announced that their football program is giving away naming rights to the playing field, netting them a guaranteed $11 million.

While that kind of money won’t run a Division One athletic department alone, it would allow for a department like Arizona to use more of an operating budget that could help not only for football but for all sports.

Look, Arizona Football’s reputation isn’t exactly the best, and the stadium rarely gets filled, I don’t think there is much of an emotional attachment among fans that would put up much of a fight if the playing field were to have a sponsor.

Heck, perhaps a few other programs on campus could benefit as well, so long as a partnership would make sense.

Basketball on the other hand would be off-limits. Anything that alters or changes the name to McKale Center or Lute & Bobbi Olson Court is a non-starter for me.

Anyway, this is just an idea. What does everyone else think?
