Following a terrific 2020-21 season the Arizona Women’s Basketball team (16-5, 13-4) has earned a three-seed in the NCAA Tournament.

While selection Sunday was non-existent for Arizona Basketball, as the Men’s team is on a self-imposed postseason ban, however, selection Monday was what fans have been anxiously waiting for, awaiting the fate of the Arizona Women’s Basketball team.

Following a solid year in which the Wildcats finished in second place with an impressive 16-5 (13-4) record in the uber-competitive Pac-12, we’ve been waiting to hear their placement in the 2021 NCAA Tournament.

Although the year didn’t quite end how we all had hoped, on Monday the Wildcats were officially selected as the No. 3 seed in the Mercado Region of the 2021 Tournament. Arizona will square off with the No. 14 seeded Stony Brook Seawolves (15-5, 11-3) on Monday.

What is on deck for Arizona Women’s Basketball and our Wildcats just ahead of the 2021 Tournament?

For fans of Arizona Women’s Basketball, this has been a long time coming. This is a group that wasn’t able to play in the Tournament last year due to Covid, and it signifies that this program is finally turning the corner.

In her fifth season as head coach of the Wildcats, former Wildcat Adia Barnes has done wonders to turn around this program. Once considered to be the bottom feeders of the conference, it has been a miraculous journey for this group and it is great to finally see their hard pay off.

Previewing the Wildcats Region:

While the road to a Final Four won’t be easy by any means, the Wildcats have one of the more favorable regions. Arizona misses powers like UCONN, Stanford, South Carolina, Baylor, and Louisville.

Their region does, however, have No. 1 seeded NC State (20-2) and No. 2 seeded Texas A&M (23-2).

Should Arizona win their first game, they will await the winner of the No. 6 Rutgers/ No. 11 BYU matchup. After that, the Wildcats could see feasibly see any of the following in No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 7 Iowa State, No. 10 Michigan State, or No. 15 Troy.
