San Antonio, TX – Opening up tournament play as the No. 3 seed, Arizona Women’s Basketball (17-5, 13-4) routed Stony Brook to advance.

For the Arizona Women’s Basketball program that has had a long road in getting back to where they are now, they took out all their frustrations No. 14 seed Stony Brook after not being able to play in the 2020 NCAA Tournament.

From the start, the Wildcats showed that they meant business jumping out to an early, dominant 26-10 lead in the first quarter.

Using a stifling defense and an efficient offense, the Wildcats continued their dominance, growing their lead to as many as 27 as they entered halftime with the 47-20 lead.

Arizona Women’s Basketball wouldn’t let up in the second half as they ultimately cruised to the dominating 79-44 win.

Entering the second half in complete control, Arizona would not let up in this one. The team came into the Tournament on a mission, and they showed the rest of the competition that they mean business as they took Stony Brook to the woodshed in the second half as well.

Sparked by a stifling defensive performance, Arizona would hold the Seawolves to just 24 points on 38 percent shooting in the second half en route to the huge, 35-point win.

As the Wildcats came away with the first-round victory, they will advance to take on No. 11 seed BYU (19-5, 13-3).

Following the win, the Wildcats will have to shift focus and getting ready for another big matchup as the stakes get even higher.
