SAN ANTONIO,  TX – Facing a tough challenge with No. 2 Texas A&M, the Arizona Women’s Basketball team (19-5, 13-4) advances with a clutch performance.

Aari McDonald has been incredible throughout her career at Arizona, and fittingly she once again was instrumental in helping propel the Arizona Women’s Basketball team to the 74-59 win. The senior guard finished the game with 31 points and five rebounds on 12-21 shooting.

As good as Aari was on Saturday evening, you cannot deny the overall team performance as the Wildcats absolutely dominated Texas A&M, holding the Aggies to just 59 points on 24-51 shooting.

Playing in their first Sweet 16 in 23 years, Arizona would need a big performance if they were going to come away with the upset, and luckily for us, the Wildcats were ready for the challenge, responding in kind.

Coming in, Arizona was averaging roughly five three-pointers made per game. Against A&M, the Wildcats were red hot from the field, shooting a combined 28-61 (45.9 percent) and 13-29 (44.8 percent) from three, a stark contrast from Wednesday’s game.

From the tip, Arizona was firing on all cylinders as they brought the intensity to Texas A&M. Keeping it close as they trailed just 19-17 after the first quarter.

The second quarter is where Wildcats would take control and not look back. Sparked by solid defense and sharp-shooting, Arizona would gain the lead with 8:28 left to play after a pair of Trinity Baptiste free throws.

Continuing to build on their lead, the Wildcats would end the half by outscoring A&M 15-13, entering halftime with the narrow, three-point lead.

The second-half is where Arizona Women’s Basketball would dominate this one, eventually pacing themselves to the Sweet 16 win.

Building off their momentum and continuing to gain confidence, the Wildcats dominated the Aggies, outscoring A&M 39-27 in the second half.

Aari would be an unstoppable force for the Wildcats, pacing Arizona with 31 points and helping to deliver the 15-point win over Texas A&M.

With the win, Arizona improves to 19-5 (13-4) and will return to action on Monday in the Elite Eight as they take on the 4-seed Indiana Hoosiers (21-5, 16-2).
