Following a tremendous run in the NCAA Tournament Arizona Women’s Basketball head coach Adia Barnes will coach with Team USA in the AmeriCup.

Coming off a tremendous run in which the Arizona Women’s Basketball team made their first trip to the Final Four and the National Championship, it will be a busy off-season for head coach Adia Barnes as she will serve as an assistant on the USA AmeriCup Team.

Making news yesterday, Barnes was named as an assistant under Dawn Staley and will be with Team USA as they compete in the AmeriCup, which will feature numerous collegiate athletes and attendees.

As of now, the tournament will take place between June 11-19 in Puerto Rico and will feature ten nations from North, South, and Central America as well as the Caribbean.

The top four teams will advance to compete in one of four 2022 FIBA World Cup Qualifying Tournaments.

You have to think that this is an opportunity that helped come about because of Adia’s success in the NCAA Tournament this year. After all, she is one of the quickly rising coaches in college basketball.

Also, given her international experience, this seems like a great fit for Adia Barnes, and it will be an excellent opportunity to work with some of the best coaches in the business.

With the Tournament still a way out, her work will essentially start now and will highlight what will most assuredly be a busy off-season for Adia.

Coming into 2021-22, she will be looking to continue to build off the success she saw this past year, however, it won’t come easy as the Wildcats look to replace her top scorer in Aari McDonald.

Luckily, the Wildcats will be able to help supplement the loss of production with the addition of Vanderbilt transfer, Koi Love. Koi finished the year averaging 20.8 points and 9.5 rebounds before the season abruptly ended for Vanderbilt.

Overall, it looks like Adia will have busy few months, and we are excited in following the action.
