Arizona Basketball: Why TyTy Washington should commit to Arizona
By Jordan Cuda
The best recruit available in the 2021 class TyTy Washington needs to take his talent to Tucson and play with Arizona Basketball.
Picking where you want to attend college is a life-changing decision on many levels. For TyTy Washington, it could determine a lot about his future and whether his NBA dreams will become a reality. While there are many solid choices to choose from including Kanas, Kentucky, and Pac-12 foe the Oregon Ducks, the right choice for TyTy should be with Arizona Basketball!
Currently, TyTy is ranked No. 31 overall and the No. 3 point guard in the 2021 class. As a senior, Washington averaged 24 points and seven assists all while shooting 41 percent from beyond the arc, helping lead Compass Prep to a 28-2 record with the only two losses coming to the top-ranked team in Montverde Academy.
Arizona Wildcats
In the news today, they say “any publicity, is good publicity” and there will be plenty of that going around in Tucson next year, as the Wildcats will be beginning their first basketball season under Tommy Lloyd, on the heels of first-time head coach Jedd Fisch in football.
This will surely capture the attention of most media who follow the Pac-12 and perhaps even some outside of the Pac-12, as both Tommy Lloyd and Fisch have deep connections elsewhere. This kind of spotlight is just what TyTy needs to make a name for himself.
Even with the possibility of a few players leaving the program for a chance elsewhere. For the most part, Arizona Basketball will return the core talent of freshmen that surprised quite a few people last year with their performances. This is a team that if they were eligible, would have been the No. 5 seed in the Pac-12 tournament and on the bubble for March Madness.
The addition of TyTy at point guard could be that piece that the Wildcats need to make them a special group next year.
After all, Lloyd is certainly putting on the pressure so far!

Arizona also has a reputation for putting their players in the NBA once their playing days at Arizona are through. There is also a laundry list of point guards in the NBA that are University of Arizona alumni. While the school from up north claims to be “Guard U”, the reality is that most Pac-12 schools or power five schools cant come close to the level of talent put into the NBA.
Finally and most importantly, TyTy will get the keys to the car on day one once arriving in Tucson, as it looks like James Akinjo will depart from Arizona, leaving TyTy as the only true point guard on the roster for the Wildcats. The playing time will be abundant for the freshman and the opportunity to prove himself will start right away.
The national exposure will be there as always as he will be able to showcase his skills nationally. NBA scouts will have their eyes on Tucson as some returning players also have something to prove to make it to the league.
Come on TyTy, join the family of Wildcats and come down Tucson, Arizona! The sun shines bright and the future of Arizona Basketball would be even brighter with TyTy at the helm next year. As always Wildcat nation, Bear Down!
