With Tommy Lloyd and Arizona Basketball tooling the roster and making preparations for the 2021-22 season, the Wildcats will desperately need another guard.

It has been a busy couple of weeks for Arizona Basketball, and as the Wildcats adjust to the Tommy Lloyd era in Tucson, everything happening currently with the team is all about building towards the future, especially as the Cats hit the recruiting trail.

Already, we’ve seen a few recruiting wins for coach Lloyd with the addition of Gonzaga transfer Oumar Ballo and 2022 commit Dylan Anderson. However, as we’ve also seen in recent weeks, the Wildcats have a couple of players in the transfer portal, particularly at the guard position.

At this point, it seems likely that James Akinjo is leaving, and 2021 commit K.J. Simpson has reopened his recruitment. That essentially leaves just Kerr Kriisa (assuming he comes back) for 2021-22.

While things are still very fluid for the Wildcats, we will have more answers about next years’ roster in the coming weeks/months. However, if there is one thing that is clear, it is that Arizona will need more guards in a bad way.

Whether it is through the transfer portal or via traditional recruiting methods, there are a few guard options for Arizona Basketball head coach Tommy Lloyd.

So who fits the bill for Arizona? It goes without saying, but 2021 guard TyTy Washington should 100 percent be the focus. He is from just up the road in Chandler, AZ, and fits the bill perfectly. He is talented, could start from day one, and could be the best option to help the Cats in getting back to the NCAA Tournament, assuming that’s a possibility.

Outside of TyTY, the portal still has quite a few options should the Wildcats get involved with anyone, plus, there could still be more transfer too.

Either way, the Wildcats will desperately need another guard to help compliment the current roster.
