Shane Dezonie decommits from Arizona Basketball
As Arizona Basketball continues their busy off-season, the Wildcats will look to replace 2021 signee Shane Dezonie as he officially de-committed from Arizona.
Arizona Basketball head coach Tommy Lloyd has been with the Wildcats for nearly two weeks and already he has had a tough challenge as he not only has had to re-recruit the current roster and fill out his coaching staff but also hitting the recruiting trail. Unfortunately, he will have to replace 2021 signee, Shane Dezonie.
Making news on Tuesday afternoon, Shane took to social media to announce that he would be de-committing from the Wildcats and reopen his recruitment.
Arizona Wildcats
Rated as a four-star recruit in the class for 2021, Shane is a Top 100 recruit nationally that picked the Wildcats back in October over offers from Arkansas, Arizona State, Cincinnati, and Missouri among others.
A 6-foot-4-inch, 180-pound combo guard, Shane was going to provide depth to the Wildcats’ now depleted backcourt, but unfortunately, he just doesn’t quite see Lloyd and Arizona’s current vision.
His de-commitment also comes on the heels of K.J. Simpson de-committing from the Wildcats just a week ago, as well as Tibet Gorener entering the transfer portal.
So where do Tommy Lloyd and Arizona Basketball go following the de-commitment of Shane Dezonie?
From here, it doesn’t seem likely that Shane will reconsider the Wildcats, and with Arizona potentially facing punishment from the NCAA/IARP in the coming months, they may have to be very calculated with how they fill out the rest of the roster from here.
However, one thing is for certain, the Wildcats will need to find another guard or two for the 2021-22 season.
At this point, the Wildcats’ depth in the backcourt is a bit limited, and you have to think outside of TyTy Washington, coach Lloyd is looking at all his options whether that is via the Transfer Portal or elsewhere. Either way, we wish Shane the best wherever he decides to go.
