With Arizona Basketball in the thick of their recruiting efforts for 2021, it is imperative the Wildcats land a guard, so we look at some potential options.

It has been a busy off-season for Arizona Basketball as the Wildcats look to round out the recruiting class for 2021, and load the roster for next season.

Already we have seen a bit of turnover, which was to be expected with the hiring of Tommy Lloyd to replace Sean Miller, but now the Wildcats may have to scramble to gather a few more pieces for next year.

Right now, it is clear the biggest focus is at or at least should be at guard, and it makes sense to given the push to try and land TyTy Washington. However, as we’ve recently seen, landing TyTy at this point may be pretty tough to do with Kentucky being the heavy favorites.

With TyTy Washington making his college decision on May 15, we will soon have our outcome, and the Arizona Basketball program can figure out where to transition from here.

So what are some of Arizona’s secondary options at guard? Well, it appears there is growing interest in French guard, Adama Bal.

A lengthy and talented guard with offers from Arizona, Georgia, Marquette, and Colorado among others, to me, this recruitment is dependent on whether the Wildcats are in a win now mode or building towards the future.

Perhaps Adama could be a solid player from the start, however, it does seem like he would be a player who will need continued development, and may be a guy that would be a good foundational piece for the future.

Outside of that, there is Gonzaga transfer Aaron Cook who is still in the transfer portal. He already has connections to Lloyd and would be a nice filler for Arizona in the meantime.

In addition to Cook and Bal, there is also Utah transfer Pelle Larsson. If Arizona were to add Larsson, he would be a nice production option, however, he is not a true point guard, and if Arizona did use him at point guard, to me, that would not be a good sign.

Either way, it looks like the Wildcats have some decent options, and we are just anxious to see what happens in the coming weeks.
