After trying to find success as a football player, the former Wildcat has now turned to Mixed Martial Arts, where he is hoping to break out.

His career may not have lasted long in Tucson, but after a short stint with the Wildcats, the former Arizona Football defensive end Mohammed Usman is now trying to find a path in professional fighting.

Following in the footsteps of his highly successful older brother, Kamaru Usman, the reigning UFC Welterweight Champion, Mohammed may still be early in the process, but perhaps could find a decent amount of success as well.

Mohammed recently joined the Professional Fighters League, and the PFL is essentially a smaller competitor league to the highly popular UFC that began in 2018.

Unlike other leagues, the PFL has a regular season and playoff format, where fighters can earn points and move up and down the standings.

While still early, the league is beginning to gain popularity and could provide more opportunities for fighters like Usman who is still early in his professional fighting career.

Still early in his professional fighting career, Mohammed (aka ‘The Motor’) sports a 7-2 professional record and is starting to gain notoriety, perhaps in part because of his brothers’ success.

Well, Mohammed made his highly anticipated debut in the PFL just days ago, with the hopes of pursuing $1 million as he fought fellow PFL fighter, Brandon Sayles.

Brandon came out strong, delivering a few major blows in the second round, before eventually dropping the 6-foot-2-inch 265-pound fighter, and putting him into submission with a rear-naked chokehold just 3:42 into the second round.

While it was not quite the debut I’m sure he was hoping for, Usman still has a long way to go and the competition certainly can’t hurt him as he has one more chance to improve his standing in the PFL.

Here’s a little highlight from Usman’s fight against Sayles.
