No more ‘A Players Program’ as Arizona Basketball ushers new era
Arizona Basketball officially ushers in a new era of basketball with Tommy Lloyd as head coach as the Wildcats dropped their old moniker, ‘A Players Program’.
Things are quickly changing in Tucson as Arizona Basketball is going a rebrand of sorts. Weeks after hiring Tommy Lloyd to replace long-time head coach Sean Miller, the Wildcats are beginning a new chapter, officially moving on from the ‘A Players Program’ moniker.
Ushering in a new era of Arizona Basketball, the news of the rebrand made waves via social media on Thursday afternoon as the Wildcats changed their Twitter handle to @ArizonaMBB.
Arizona Wildcats
A slogan that was largely synonymous with the Miller era, Lloyd is beginning to make changes as he sees fit, and while the news is shocking, it shouldn’t be all that surprising either.
Coming in, we all knew that coach Lloyd was going to establish his own culture, as well as build the program the way he envisions, so this is just a small move that he made as the Wildcats are getting a fresh start.
Now, while the name change may be a bit shocking to some, I would assume that this does not mean that Lloyd is completely dropping the philosophy or meaning behind it either. If anything, Arizona has a strong alumni base with immense tradition and success behind it, and already Lloyd has said he wants the program to continue to have strong Arizona ties.
If anything, this could be a good thing for the Wildcats as it gives the program a fresh start. Plus, we can look forward to no longer being teased by opposing fans about being a ‘Payers Program’.
At this point, it is hard to say if the Wildcats will adopt a new slogan, nor can we theorize what it is, however, this is a news start and it is exciting to follow. As always, Bear Down!
