It has been a busy off-season for Arizona Basketball and with the Wildcats seeing a bit of change to the roster, 2021 signee Shane Nowell isn’t going anywhere.

In one of the most important recruitments, this off-season, Arizona Basketball head coach Tommy Lloyd has stepped up and delivered, as 2021 signee Shane Nowell announced he plans on sticking with Arizona.

The news of Shane’s announcement came on Monday evening, and this is an important recruitment for Arizona, since 2021 signee’s K.J. Simpson and Shane Dezonie backed out of their NLI’s, instead committing to Colorado and Vanderbilt respectively.

So with Sampson and Dezonie leaving, and Coach Lloyd missing on the recruitments of TyTy Washington and Arthur Kaluma, this is a nice win for him and the Cats.

A 6-foot-5-inch shooting guard from Eastside Catholic (Sammamish, WA), Nowell was arguably the best out of the three players previously committed for Arizona, and his addition gives Arizona another talented player at wing.

With Shane in the fold, he joins fellow players like Kerr Kriisa, Dalen Terry, Pelle Larsson, Adama Bal, and Benn Mathurin in the backcourt. While vastly different from last year, this is a group that still has some talent, but also has a lot of length and athleticism.

A perfect scenario for Arizona would ideally be to add another point guard via the transfer portal, but we will see how that pans out.

As for Nowell, he comes to Tucson with a big game and big potential. He is a dynamic and athletic wing that comes from good lineage. In case you forgot, his older brother Jaylen was drafted into the NBA in the 2019 Draft out of Washington.

Nowell is also a solid on-ball defender and rebounder that is able this length to his advantage, and he is also a plus shooter that has range that extends beyond the three-point line!

And in case you need a reminder of just how good Shane is, here are some of his highlights…
