With the NFL in the midst of another busy off-season, former Wildcat Reggie Gilbert has found a new home as the Detroit Lions have signed the outside linebacker.

2020 was a tough year for virtually everyone, especially the NFL as numerous players and teams were severely impacted by Covid. Rosters fluctuated throughout the season and some players didn’t even get a chance to compete as a result of the pandemic. One of those players being former Wildcat Reggie Gilbert.

In case you missed it, the savvy NFL veteran spent the 2020 season without a team, but finally, after a brief hiatus, the veteran outside linebacker and edge rusher is returning to football.

Making news on Tuesday evening, the Detroit Lions announced that they have signed former Wildcat, Reggie Gilbert.

As you may recall, Gilbert spent the entire 2019 season in Tennessee, seeing a decent amount of action as he accumulated 22 total tackles (13 solo) with one tackle for loss and one sack in 11 games (five starts).

Well, luckily for Gilbert, the former Wildcat standout is getting another chance in the NFL, this time with the Lions, and hopefully, he gets an opportunity to showcase his talent.

To me, Gilbert always possessed a lot of potential and it showed too as he made the transition from the defensive line to linebacker in the NFL.

So far in three seasons in the NFL, Gilbert has combined for 62 tackles (42 solo) with 6.0 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks,  and a fumble recovery. His best season by far was when he was in Green Bay in 2018, totaling 38 tackles (27 solo).

As for Gilbert, he will surely have a bit of a battle as he tries to make a final roster spot, nonetheless, he at least has the opportunity to come in and showcase to teams what they have been missing this past year.
