TUCSON, AZ – Following their game two loss, Arizona Baseball responded with a huge, 16-3 win over Ole Miss to advance to the College World Series.

It was a hot one in the ‘Ol Southwest’ yesterday, however, the only thing hotter on Sunday evening inside Hi Corbett (aka ‘The Juicebox’) were the bats from Arizona Baseball.

It was a complete game effort from the Wildcats as virtually everyone joined the hitting party, as the Wildcats combined for 16 runs and 20 hits, a stark contrast from Saturday’s performance.

From the start, the Wildcats got off to a quick start when the red-hot Tony Bullard drove a single to left field that scored Branden Boissiere to make it 1-0.

Ole Miss would tie things up in the third inning when Cael Baker would drive in a run on the sacrifice fly.

However, Arizona responded with a Jacob Berry two-run home run in the third inning, followed by a seven-run fourth inning and a three-run fourth inning to take a commanding 13-1 lead.

Arizona Baseball would add more insurance runs in the seventh inning as well as the eighth inning to put this one far out of reach.

Aside from Arizona’s hot bats, the pitching was just as impressive. Dawson Netz got the start, throwing two solid innings, where he would eventually be replaced by TJ Nichols who was was impressive.

The freshman right-handed hurler was dominant, finishing his day surrendering just one run on three hits while striking out seven through five-and-a-third innings pitched.

Nichols would be replaced by Preston Price and Vince Vannelle, who would close things down for Arizona.

Arizona would go on to win 16-3, advancing to their 18th College World Series. And with the win, the Wildcats will await a huge showdown with Vanderbilt, the 2019 National Champions.

Previewing the College World Series and Vanderbilt:

  • Baseball action kicks off on Saturday, June 19, and runs until June 30.
  • The Wildcats will be in the same bracket as NC State, Vanderbilt, and Stanford.
  • Vanderbilt comes in with a lot of talent and will provide a unique challenge for Arizona as the Commodores have elite pitchers in Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter.
