Well, the FIBA U19 Tournament was the perfect setting as it let the Wildcat compete against some of the world’s best, and do it on one of the biggest stages.

Despite having poor showings against Lithuania in group play and later against Spain in the quarterfinals, the tournament was still a great opportunity for Ben to compete just ahead of the 2021-22 season.

Helping guide Canada to the third-place event in the tournament, Arizona Basketball star Ben Mathurin helped to deliver the bronze.

Taking on one of the top teams in Serbia, Ben was the star on Sunday afternoon in Latvia as he scored 32 points en route to the teams’ 101-92 win.

Despite going 0-4 from outside, Ben remained aggressive, finishing around the bucket and through contact, as he would also finish a near-perfect, 9-10 from the charity stripe. Mathurin would go a perfect 11-11 from two-point range (11-15 from the field).

Throughout the tournament Mathurin dazzled, showcasing his superior athleticism and solid shooting touch, ending the tournament averaging 16.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.9 assists on 48.8 percent shooting from the field and 34.5 percent three.

With continued preparation, Ben is going to be one of Arizona’s best players this year, and as he teams with Azuolas Tubelis and others, the Wildcats could be a surprise in the Pac-12.

Here’s a recap of Ben’s performance…
