Return of Treshaun Hayward deepens Arizona Football linebacker corps
With the 2021 Arizona Football season just around the corner, former Western Michigan linebacker Treshaun Hayward is returning to the team.
Arizona Football and head coach Jedd Fisch have been on a roll the past few months, and it seems their winning hasn’t stopped as linebacker Treshaun Hayward is returning to the team.
As you may recall, Treshaun was the former 2019 MAC Defensive Player of the Year from Western Michigan that signed with Arizona back in February. However, after a couple of months, Treshaun had left the team after reportedly being dropped.
Well on Monday afternoon, we all learned that Treshaun is back in the fold with the Wildcats, as Arizona Daily Star reporter Michael Lev had noted he will be part of the team as Fall Camp starts.
The former Defensive Player of the Year in the MAC Conference, the addition of Treshaun is going to be greatly welcomed this season.
Arizona Wildcats
At Western Michigan, Hayward was incredibly productive. Playing in 36 games, he accumulated 238 tackles (128 solo) with 16.5 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. That kind of production would be nice for Arizona if he can replicate some of that success here.
At 6-feet-1-inch and 235 pounds, Treshaun is a big and sturdy kid that does well in getting sideline to sideline. He has great vision and pursues the ball well, packing a significant punch when he makes contact with the ball carrier.
Coming into the year, Arizona Football needed significant help on defense, and head coach Jedd Fisch addressed it by adding Treshaun Hayward among others.
Arizona Football has had a fortuitous couple of months, and adding Treshaun is only the tip of it all. In addition to Treshaun, the Wildcats have brought in Kenny Hebert (Vanderbilt), Jerry Roberts (Bowling Green State), Rashie Hodge (New Mexico State), Malik Reed (Wisconsin), and Jason Harris (Colorado).
And that’s just on top of Anthony Pandy, Rourke Freeburg, and Jabar Triplett all returning along with the incoming arrivals of Jackson Bailey, Matthew Weerts, DJ Fryar, and Kolbe Cage.
This may be the best depth I have seen from the Arizona linebackers in quite some time, and should this group mesh well, the defense could see significant improvement in 2021.
