TOKYO, JAPAN – After a grueling couple of weeks of competition in Tokyo, former Wildcats Steve Kerr and Josh Green medaled in Men’s Basketball.

It is always great seeing our Wildcats succeed on some of the largest stages, and for the past couple of weeks, Steve Kerr and Josh Green have been on perhaps the largest stage as both participated in the “2020” Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Green represented his home country of Australia, playing spot minutes for his squad, while Kerr used his coaching expertise and knowledge alongside a tremendous coaching that consisted of Gregg Popovich (head coach) and assistants Lloyd Pierce and Jay Wright.

Competing against some of the best competition in the World, things drew to a close to the Men’s Basketball event on Saturday, as Kerr and USA squared off with France in the Gold medal game, days after routing Australia 97-78 in their Semifinal win.

As for Green and Australia, their squad took on a talented and skilled Slovenian team that featured NBA Superstar Luka Dončić, and from the start, it was all in favor of the Aussies.

Taking a 20-19 lead early, Australia extended their lead to eight at the half, before running away in the third and fourth quarters to earn the 14-point win.

Fueled behind Patty Mills’ 42 points, Green would not see action in this one, but it didn’t matter as the Aussies medaled for the first time in Men’s Basketball, earning Bronze.

As for Kerr and Team USA, the men continued their winning ways, despite losing to France earlier on in Group Play.

Propelled behind Kevin Durant’s 29 points and six rebounds, Team USA controlled the game from start to finish, eventually pacing themselves to the 87-82 win over France to earn Gold for the 16th time overall, and their fourth straight.

With Men’s Basketball action officially over at the Olympics, both Wildcats represented their nations well, and in particular Arizona Basketball.

We’re happy for both Josh and Steve earning wins, and only hope to see more Wildcats at the Olympics in the future!
