With the 2021 Arizona Football season just under a month away, head coach Jedd Fisch is looking for separation at the quarterback position.

Fall camp is well underway for Arizona Football and so far there have been plenty of storylines to follow, the biggest perhaps being the competition at quarterback.

Coming into this season, success for the Wildcats will largely be contingent on the play of the quarterback, so naturally, fans would be most interested in that position battle in fall camp, and it is one that is probably the most important one to follow.

Considered to be a three-man face so far, we have Will Plummer who played a little last season for the Wildcats, showing some promise albeit being inconsistent. Then we also have Gunner Cruz who transferred in from Washington State who saw limited playing time with the Cougars last year.

Lastly, we have Jordan McCloud, the transfer from USF who has put up some respectable numbers with the Bulls the last couple of seasons, although it was on teams with losing records.

At first glance, things look bleak, and perhaps they might be. Until Arizona shows any sort of reasonable production from quarterback, there will be a lot of questions regarding this team.

Luckily, Arizona Football and Jedd Fisch still have time to get their quarterbacks ready for the start of the season.

Early on, the reports have been that Arizona has seen some decent success at quarterback, and it is clearly a three-man race at the position.

“They’re definitely more confident. They definitely kind of know what is going on a little bit more, so they’re playing quicker and the ball’s coming out of their hand a little faster,” Fisch said.

However, the Wildcats desperately need one player to step up and separate themselves from the others.

“Someone needs to separate themselves. Somebody needs to figure out that competitive edge to find a way to be different… and right now we haven’t seen the separation we’re looking for,” Fisch said.

Luckily, there is still some time for Arizona to settle some things, and Fisch is considered to be a quarterback guru of sorts.

Here’s to hoping the Wildcats find their answers at quarterback quickly!
