Just a week into Fall Camp, and already freshman running back Stevie Rocker, Jr. is standing out among the running backs for Arizona Football.

The 2021 Arizona Football season is well underway for the Wildcats, and already some position battles are starting to take form, especially for freshman Stevie Rocker, Jr. at running back.

A Tucson native that graduated from Canyon Del Oro High School in Oro Valley, AZ, Rocker was originally a three-star recruit in the class of 2021 that came to Arizona after seeing rather solid success with the Dorados.

Picking Arizona over offers from Cal, Nevada, and BYU, Stevie was a running back with plenty of upside, however, still had some durability concerns after running into some injury issues over the past couple of seasons.

Well, after enrolling at the University of Arizona in the Spring, and participating in Spring Ball, Stevie has had an advantage over a few others as he has had time in the Strength & Conditioning program already, and has had some reps at running back.

And with Arizona Football head coach Jedd Fisch confirming that the Wildcats will be using a running back committee, Stevie Rocker, Jr. stands to benefit.

We are still roughly three weeks until the start of the season, and already it seems running back will be one of Arizona’s better positions, and it all starts with depth.

Having a mix of Rocker, Northwestern transfer Drake Anderson, Michael Wiley, Jalen John, and Bam Smith among others, this is arguably the Wildcats’ deepest position, and according to Fisch, Rocker seems to be performing near the top as part of a three-horse race along with Anderson and Wiley.

It makes sense too! Since coming to Arizona, Stevie has put on some good weight, filling out to 202 pounds according to the updated roster, and even putting together a terrific Spring.

At CDO, he showed glimpses of being a special talent, but he just needed to get into a Division One program to help correct some of those injury issues he had, as well as put more muscle on him to make him a bit more durable.

With continued development, he could be a special player for Arizona this coming season!
