Regardless of rain and inclement weather, the show went on for Arizona Football on Saturday morning as the Wildcats continued fall camp.

Taking to Arizona Stadium in front of a sparse and scant crowd, the Wildcats partook in another fall camp practice just ahead of the 2021 season.

So far in fall camp, the storylines that have dominated the headlines have been Arizona’s three-man quarterback competition, the progress of the defense, and the amazing quotes from defensive coordinator, Don Brown.

On Saturday, as Arizona Football took to the field for another Fall Camp practice, these were the major observations I saw.

The quarterbacks still looked inconsistent, but could a leader be emerging? –

So far, head coach Jedd Fisch has been adamant about the quarterbacks being inconsistent and needing separation. Well, from my observations he wasn’t wrong.

It is hard to definitively say just how good or bad these quarterbacks are, especially when we haven’t seen this group play against anyone else but themselves. However, on Saturday, they looked just okay.

Seeing the trio of Gunner Cruz, Jordan McCloud, and Will Plummer all gets snaps, all of them showed glimpses at times, but the one that seemed to stand out the most was Cruz.

Plummer made some nice throws but also missed on a few others. McCloud looked a bit shaky too, make a few errant passes and even fumbling when he saw pressure.

While I wouldn’t say Cruz is the clear leader here, he did seem to at least look the best and had made a couple of nice plays.

The best play came from a Cruz pass to Brian Casteel who somehow stayed in bounds and secured an impressive catch.

The defense was just okay –

Despite seemingly making progress throughout fall camp, on Saturday, the defense didn’t quite look as crisp. Chalk it up to injuries (and there have been a few so far), but the group just wasn’t as sharp.

Giving up plays and significant yardage underneath, it wasn’t Arizona’s best day defensively and coach Brown let his group know as he laid into the defense at the end of practice.

Luckily for the Wildcats, the first game is still a ways away, and Arizona will have plenty of opportunities to clean things up defensively.

The offensive line had a decent push –

Last year, this was a group that struggled, but so far in 2021, they have made significant strides. While I don’t expect the offensive line to be a dominant one, they did show some things on Saturday, and you could hear coach Brennan Carroll coach and praise his guys.

There was a lot of movement in practice as the offense rotated out plenty of guys which was refreshing to see. With more repetition, this could be a decent group.
