Continuing to make moves in the recruiting class for 2022, Arizona Football has secured a commitment from four-star linebacker, Sterling Lane.

Arizona Football head coach Jedd Fisch and staff have been on a roll on the recruiting trail so far in 2022, and on Friday afternoon, their hot streak continued as they secured yet another commitment, this time from Southern California linebacker, Sterling Lane.

Making his announcement live on CBS Sports HQ, Sterling picked the Wildcats despite having a myriad of offers from Oregon, Michigan, Arkansas, LSU, and Arizona State among several others.

Becoming the 15th commitment in the class, Sterling Lane is the Wildcats’ second highest-rated recruit for 2022, and he is a big get for Arizona Football.

A four-star linebacker in the class of 2022, Sterling is the standout defensive player from the talented Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village, CA, and he comes in with plenty of talent and upside.

Rated as the No. 322 overall player in the class, he is also considered to be the No. 37 overall rated linebacker in the class based on 247Sports’ composite recruiting rankings, and he addresses a huge need for the Cats.

When he was hired as head coach, Fisch desperately needed to upgrade the level and talent and depth of this roster, and in particular on defense. With the addition of Lane, they are getting a good player that addresses those needs.

Coming in, Sterling stands an impressive 6-feet-4-inches and 235 pounds, and he is a big, strong, and athletic kid that fits in perfectly with defensive coordinator Don Brown’s defense.

Lining mostly as an edge rusher, Sterling possesses great explosiveness, he sees the field well, has good speed, and packs a lot of power on his hits.

Potentially being used in more of a hybrid linebacker/ defensive end role, he fits Arizona’s defense well, and this is an exciting pick-up for the Cats. When you watch his film, the kid oozes potential, and this is a commitment that Wildcats should be particularly excited about.
