With months to go until the start of the 2021-22 Arizona Basketball season, the Wildcats will have to replace Jason Terry after he accepted a G-League coaching job.
Just as Arizona Basketball head coach Tommy Lloyd seemed to have his coaching staff in place with the 2021-22 season just months away, now he will have to find a replacement for assistant coach and former Wildcat, Jason Terry.
Making news on Thursday afternoon, ESPN basketball analyst Adrian Wojnarowski announced that Terry would be moving on from the staff, as the Wildcats’ assistant coach is heading back to the G-League this time as a head coach.
Officially accepting a job with the Grand Rapids Gold, the G-League affiliate of the Denver Nuggets, Jason Terry moves on from Arizona Basketball.
Joining Sean Miller’s staff last year, the move is a quick one for Jason, but it doesn’t come as too much of a surprise either.
If you may recall, Jason was rumored to be leaving the Arizona staff anyways, and just a couple of months ago, many had thought Terry would soon be potentially joining the Dallas Mavericks’ coaching staff.
Either way, the 19-year NBA veteran seemed to have his sites set on getting to the NBA and becoming a head coach as Wojnarowski revealed, and now he will get his chance.
A former All-American and NCAA Champion, Terry was also an NBA Champion and former ‘Sixth Man of the Year’. With his departure from Arizona’s staff, Tommy Lloyd will now have to fill two coaching vacancies on the Wildcats’ staff.
You would have to think former Wildcat Jason Gardner could get a look here considering he was just hired by the Wildcats as a Director of Player Relations. He returns to Arizona after serving as a head coach at IUPUI for five seasons.
Either way, Lloyd will have to work quickly to find replacement staff!
