Holding a scrimmage in front of a packed Zona Zoo, Arizona Football and Jedd Fisch created a game-like atmosphere to wrap up training camp.

With the 2021 season just around the corner, Arizona Football wrapped up their fall training camp by holding a scripted scrimmage inside Arizona Stadium on Saturday evening.

Coming into Saturday, head coach Jedd Fisch and Arizona wanted to replicate a regular game, by dividing his teams into squads (Red and Blue), they even incentivized the students into coming to the scrimmage to create a nice buzz and game-like atmosphere.

Well on Saturday evening, the students didn’t disappoint, nearly filling the entire student section. And for 90 minutes, Arizona almost made it felt like it was a Saturday in the fall.

Arizona Football Scrimmage notes:

  • Arizona is just under two weeks away from kicking off September 4 against BYU, and coach Fisch gave the one’s a chance to work with each other and the two’s to work with each other, with the hopes of fine-tuning some things and getting his guys ready for the start of the season.
  • Gunner Cruz worked with the one’s, likely indicating that he will be named starter on Monday when coach Fisch addresses the media.
  • Cruz looked capable on Saturday, leading the offense, showing the ability to move the offense efficiently, even throwing a deep touchdown strike to Boobie Curry.
  • Quarterback’s Will Plummer and Jordan McCloud looked like decent back-up options, running with the two’s and three’s mostly, although getting some reps with the first string.
  • The defense was active on Saturday evening, as the Wildcats were able to generate some pressure even though contact was a bit limited.
  • Fisch wants to create a new tradition, like having the Zona Zoo sing the alma mater and then ‘Happy Does’ from Kenny Chesney in between the third and fourth quarter.
  • He also wants students to stay the whole game, promising to buy Chick-fil-a for students that stay the whole game.
