Arizona Basketball set to hire former UNC assistant, Steve Robinson
Rounding out their coaching staff for 2021-22, Arizona Basketball is set to hire former North Carolina assistant coach, Steve Robinson.
The 2021-22 Arizona Basketball season is nearly here, and it has been a busy couple of weeks for Tommy Lloyd and the Wildcats. Just days after hiring Riccardo Fois as an assistant head coach, Arizona has found their next assistant coach to fill the final spot, this time it is Steve Robinson.
A longtime assistant coach at North Carolina, Wildcat Authority’s Jason Scheer broke the news via social media on Tuesday evening, and with this hire, Steve will officially round out the Wildcat staff for the upcoming season.
Getting to know new Arizona Basketball Assistant Coach, Steve Robinson
An experienced and veteran coach in college basketball, Steve will come to Tucson after having spent the previous 18 years in North Carolina and will replace former Wildcat assistant, Jason Terry.
Previously serving as an assistant under former legendary UNC head coach, Roy Williams, Steve is the perfect fit for the Wildcats. He possesses an extensive coaching background having been both a head coach and an assistant coach in his 30+ years of coaching.
Making stops at Tulsa and Florida State as a head coach, Steve compiled a 110-104 coaching record but shifted back to being an assistant coach after leaving Florida State in 2002.
Along the way, Coach Robinson has also served as an assistant at Radford, Cornell, Kansas, and most recently North Carolina as well.
Now 63, Steve is a bit on the older side, however, he is a well-respected coach in college basketball. He has strong recruiting ties nationally and also has a proven track record to develop players. His experience is exactly what Lloyd and Arizona needed.
The current Arizona coaching staff is a bit on the younger side, and with some having less recruiting experience than others, this was an important hire for Lloyd to make, and he hit it out the park in my opinion.
