Arizona Football had a competitive start in week one despite losing to BYU, however, if they are going to beat SDSU, they must “get their nose dirty.”

It was a competitive start to the season in week one for Arizona Football, however, it is on to week two as the focus is completely shifts to SDSU and preparing to try and beat the Aztecs.

Coming in, the Wildcats enter as slight favorites, opening the game as a one-point favorite. And while this looks like a winnable matchup for the Wildcats, Arizona still can’t afford to overlook anyone and must prepare for a battle, especially in the trenches.

Following their week one loss to BYU, defensive coordinator Don Brown seemed generally pleased with the effort and result of the Wildcats’ defense, however, there still plenty of room for improvement, and Arizona will need to continue to get better.

If Arizona Football is going to win in week two, they will have to “get their nose dirty.”

Despite a couple of big plays last Saturday, Arizona generally played pretty well, holding the Cougars to 368 yards and 24 points, a stark contrast from the results of the defense past couple of years.

Against SDSU, they may not be quite as tough of a matchup as they did against BYU, however, this is still a group that typically runs the ball well and loves to play physical.

In their week one win over New Mexico State, that is exactly what the Aztecs did. Running the ball 42 times for 248 yards and three touchdowns, the Aztecs paced themselves to the 28-10 win, and even held the Aggies to just 374 total yards and 48 yards rushing.

In his press conference, coach Brown noted the need for the Wildcats to minimize their errors and continue to execute at a high level.

However, this win will likely depend on whether Arizona can control the line of scrimmage. The Aztecs are a team that plays tough in the trenches, works to get those tough yards, and beats you physically.

“Their offensive line is probably one of their strengths,” Brown said. “You gotta stop the run… You want to beat this club, you gotta get your nose dirty.”

Against BYU, Arizona pressured the Cougars just five times, getting just one sack. That is an area that will need to improve significantly if the Cats are going to beat the Aztecs.

Either way, fans need to prepare for a tough and physical matchup come Saturday! Listen to coach Brown and linebacker Rashie Hodge ahead of the teams’ matchup!
